Net profit
What is left once every cost and income tax has been taken out of revenue.
Net profit is the bottom line of the income statement: all income less all costs, income tax included. A negative figure is a loss.
One year is not worth reading on its own. Appropriations — depreciation differences and voluntary provisions — and one-off items move profit between years, so five profitable years in a row say more than one does.
Net profit is also the amount by which equity grows over the year, if nothing is paid out as a dividend.
